I was looking around in my closet last week and found the packaging for my very first portable gaming console. The (game.com) from Tiger. As far as I know, it was the very first portable gaming system to offer online capabilities. Of course you had to buy a special 14.4 kb modem to access it’s online capabilities, which was sold separately. Got to love those business practices designed to eat away at your pockets.
It was more of a pda/gaming platform. Much like the Iphone, Psp, and Nintendo DS as you know them today. You could even say that it was a predecessor for these current portable platforms. It even came equipped with stylus and touch screen. This was very forward thinking on Tiger’s part, but unfortunately the Nintendo Gameboy continued to reign supreme, and this console was overshadowed. It soon suffered the same fate as so many others when put in direct competition with the Nintendo’s alternative. Here is the Wiki page for more information in case you are interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game.com
